important issues affecting all people with disabilities. It includes people with disabilities, family
members, friends, service providers, and others who are committed to enhancing
the lives of people with disabilities.
Great Lakes ADA & IT Center,

The Great Lakes ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) & IT (Information
Technology) Center is one of 10 regional centers funded by the National
Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, a division of the U.S.
Department of Education. Its purpose is
to provide technical assistance and training to businesses and people with disabilities
regarding the ADA of 1990. States
served by the Great Lakes Center include Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan,
Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

The Council was created by the state legislature in 1990. Its mission is to develop and implement a
state plan for services to people with physical disabilities; to advise and
make recommendations to state agencies on relevant legislation; to promote
public awareness about the abilities of and barriers to people with physical
disabilities; to encourage the development of programs and policies that
prevent physical disabilities; and to submit recommendations in an annual
report to the state legislature.
